PERSONALITY:

Intellectually reserved, Andrew is incredibly smart. He chooses to show certain people various aspects of his personality and life since the height of his sleep deprivation has began. He appears put together on the outside, but his overthinking mind and nightmares keep him somewhat alert and unable to separate himself from his head. Andrew keeps his distance and even his words may not provide a full glimpse into his lively realities. He is often not 100% present in situations, which makes it difficult to get close to him.

BACKSTORY:

Andrew Allan Rikner grew up in a suburban home in California with his mother, Renee, after his parents' separation when he was four. Normalcy was something always out of question in his childhood home.

His father was diagnosed with anxiety before Andrew’s birth, taking trazodone to help him sleep, which caused the marriage to strain due to his growing addiction. Andrew’s sudden birth only pushed the divorce they both wanted so deeply, since once his addiction became so unbearable in his mother's eyes, Renee filed for divorce.

Trouble always seemed to follow Andrew... On an autumn evening in windy Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Andrew’s aunt was murdered in her home in cold blood. It left remnants of hope, heart, and love shattered on their front stoop. Her unexpected death led to his mother's chronic depression, and eventual outbreaks of psychosis.

Despite the unfortunately eventful childhood, Andrew became obsessed with the written word at a very young age. He enjoyed crime and the value of a brilliant novel at the expense of his own sleep and mind — something he had gotten from his parents. Andrew wrote his first real book at the age of nine before getting to double digits, immersing himself in a mystery, psychological thriller with loss and heartbreak taking center stage. It allowed his imagination to run rampant, despite the noise keeping him awake at night.

Andrew wrote novel after novel in his bedroom, hoping to create something magical after his first actual tale had been created. Whether it was through reading, exploring his hometown, or watching his mother wallow away in that house, Andrew experienced it all.

Truthfully, he had to grow up before any child should. He was just lucky that he could handle it all by himself.

Andrew is loosely named after Edgar Allan Poe since it was his father's favorite poet, and soon after the divorce, it became Andrew's favorite as well. Much of what he wrote and read was inspired by the great writer himself. He understood the nuisances of great literature and writing, and still, despite that, he adored crime and law, wanting to devote himself to both, no matter what.

After graduating high school, Andrew attended New York University to rid himself of the west coast air. There, he studied Creative Writing and Law with a minor in Physics. At the age of twenty-two, Andrew's first novel, "Forgottenly Lost and Broken" was published and became a best selling novel for the New York Times. Andrew's name splashed across television screens and radio stations as people eagerly awaited his second book. All the while, Andrew continued his law studies to become a defense lawyer.

Soon after his second book was awaiting publication, Andrew finished his law studies and entered the second world he has grown all too familiar with. The juggling of two worlds clashed with his personal life once he had both at his fingertips. His inability to get a good night's sleep got severely worse, but unlike his father, he refused to take a sleeping pill after watching the marriage crumble before him.

Instead, relationships and his massive sleep deprivation caused his mind to break — piece by piece. His judgement became compromised after meeting a young woman at a bar, who happened to find amusement in the phrase, "Do not go gentle into that goodnight."

What he saw and how he lived and breathed no longer went in a straight line, and he knew he was falling a part despite holding onto the woman he believed could save him from himself. Yet he knew he couldn't be.

And something changed in her as well. Something dark and murderous, and it was as if a hidden part of her was now drifting into the light. But Andrew became infatuated with how he felt and the feelings of burdened gloom and mystery tethered him to her, as if he was unlocking some suppressed part of himself.

He realized he was just as wicked as she was, only he masked his insecurities through her. And although a part of him truly despised her for playing him like a dirty violin in such toxicity, he was still captivated by her. Frankly, that's what Andrew despised the most.

Now, his nightmares are getting worse. His sleepless nights are elongated. No matter how much he loves her, he blames his mother for all the BS he can’t control. Yet he can't get the young woman out of his head, and it's like she's forever trapped inside. With hasty clients, nightmares dressed like a daydream, and a mind of his own, where does that leave Andrew? Is he the devilish creature he thinks he is, or is it all in his head?
